Review:
One of the mysteries surrounding Direct To Video (DTV) movies is that
very few movie reviewers ever take the time to review a DTV release.
The same goes for all too many movie magazines and movie oriented
radio and TV shows. Unless that is, the DTV release is a big budget
project with big name stars that was originally intended to be
theatrical releases, but wound up going straight to video. Usually,
these big studio projects go to video because they are judged to be
losers, so much so that putting them in theaters would likely be a
bad decision. Since the news media failed to cover the non-big studio
DTV scene, the picture that the public has gotten of DTV releases is
that they are of generally poor quality. The end result of all this
is that independently produced DTV movies have the odds stacked
against them even before they are released.

One noteworthy DTV project that has never received the attention or
the success that it deserved is the 2003 effort Scream Bloody Murder.
Scream Bloody Murder is what might be called a parody slasher flick.
Its basically a somewhat scary movie that is also quite hilarious.
Its aimed at the audience for the drivel TV series Buffy the Vampire
Slayer, but is much better than Buffy ever was.

Scream Bloody Murder is about a group of girls who attend an all
girls private school. There is to be a big dance at an all boys
private school and these girls want to go to it. As a result, they
enter a school van in their uniforms along with a stern female
teacher and a driver who has a broken leg. This is a rather diverse
group of girls whose only characteristics in common are their gender
and the fact that they are all quite good looking. One of the girls
is a slut, another is a spoiled rich lesbian, then there is a bad
girl, a good girl who is also a virgin, the wholesome exchange
student and finally a preppy no nonsense gal.

The handicapped driver manages to get lost and the van breaks down.
The van winds up being towed to a garage that is literally in the middle
of nowhere. This is the perfect place for a mad slasher to attack the
girls and that is precisely what happens. The end result is a send up of
slasher flick cliches.

Scream Bloody Murder is basically a parody of a slasher flick.
If you are able to appreciate humor in an ostensibly scary movie,
then you should be able to enjoy it. If you like great one liners
and decent special effects in a low budget effort, you should find
it pretty entertaining. On the other hand, if you want a thrilling horror
flick, then you will be disappointed.
